    Wolfdale E0 stepping, new OC king?

    Xbit labs got their hands on the E8600 chip due out in August. The chip is based on the new E0 stepping which has new features like;
    -new SSpec and MM numbers for the converting products
    -CPUID will change from 0x10676 to 0x1076A
    -Power Status Indicator (PSI) is supported
    -PECI implementation change
    -New instructions added- XSAVE/XRSTOR
    -New feature added- ACNT2
    -Packing changed to Halide free package

    And more overclocking potential!

    Quick sample of review; at 1.2v max OC is 3900.6Mhz 10 multi at 390 bus

    MAXXED OUT! at 1.5v OC is 4570.7Mhz 10 multi at 457 bus (passed 1hour of OCCT and didn't go over 80 degrees)

    That's feaky! But Nehalem will caused slow 8600 sales in this market sector.

    I don't understand reviews that just use nice round vcore values to use as landmarks for overclocking. It leads to too many newbies asking too many questions or worse, blowing stuff up.

    The stock vcore test was brilliant. How about testing at max and abs max vcore as referenced in the spec sheets (1.3625?)? And making a note of that voltage so everyone knows? Sure, then you could do a "suicide" vcore. And hell, at this example, damn sure 1.5v is useless for the gains it brings compared to 1.4v.

    Interesting, new instructions added. Performance increase at all versus "older" Wolfdales?

    "Generally speaking, CMOS power consumption is the result of charging and discharging gate capacitors. The charge required to fully charge the gate grows with the voltage; charge times frequency is current. Voltage times current is power. So, as you raise the voltage, the current consumption grows linearly, and the power consumption quadratically, at a fixed frequency. Once you reach the frequency limit of the chip without raising the voltage, further frequency increases are normally proportional to voltage. In other words, once you have to start raising the voltage, power consumption tends to rise with the cube of frequency."

    so far tested 4 with biostart. 600*7.5 is no problem for 2 of tehm at 1.35v and 440x10 boots and is memtest stable at stock voltage.
