Widescreen Fixer

There are many games that do not support widescreen properly. These games usually let you set a widescreen resolution, but do not adjust the field of view (FOV) accordingly. This causes the top and bottom of the screen to be cropped. Because of this issue, I decided to develop a program that will adjust the field of view for the aspect ratio of your monitor.

NOTES

* You will notice a slight change when you zoom in or out with weapons.
* If you use Microsoft Windows Vista, you need to have either UAC disabled or run the program as administrator.
* If you're having problems with any of the Battlefield games, reapply the latest update and see if it helps.

SUPPORTED GAMES
These games are currently supported:

* Battlefield 2 v1.40 - v1.41
* Battlefield 2142 v1.10
* Battlefield 2142 v1.20
* Battlefield 2142 v1.25
* Battlefield 2142 v1.40
* Battlefield 2142 v1.50
* BioShock v1.0
* Call of Duty 2 v1.0 Single-Player
* Call of Duty 2 v1.3 Single-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.0 Single-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.2 - v1.7 Single-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.0 Multi-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.1 Multi-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.3 Multi-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.4 Multi-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.5 Multi-Player
* Call of Duty 4 v1.7 Multi-Player
* SEGA Rally Revo v4.060

ASPECT RATIOS
Here is a list of common resolutions and their aspect ratios.

* 640x480 = 4:3
* 720x480 = 15:10
* 720x576 = 5:4
* 800x600 = 4:3
* 848x480 = 16:9
* 960x600 = 16:10
* 1024x768 = 4:3
* 1152x864 = 4:3
* 1280x720 = 16:9
* 1280x768 = 15:9
* 1280x800 = 16:10
* 1280x960 = 4:3
* 1280x1024 = 5:4
* 1360x768 = 16:9
* 1440x900 = 16:10
* 1680x1050 = 16:10
* 1920x1080 = 16:9
* 1920x1200 = 16:10

USAGE
Just extract the zip, place the program file anywhere you want and run it. You may start the program at any time, whether the game is already running or not.

To use this program:
For Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, edit the shortcut and add: +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 (or whichever widescreen resolution you use).
For Call of Duty 4, you must set the in-game aspect ratio to standard (4:3) for this to work correctly!

1. Start Widescreen Fixer.
2. Select the game you will be playing.
3. Select the aspect ratio of your monitor.
4. Start the specific game.
5. Use the Numpad * (v1.00 to v1.06), Right Control (v1.10), or ; (Semi-Colon) (v1.10.1 to v1.45.1) key to enable or disable the fix.

CoD 4 supports widescreen, so this is pretty useless for that.

Also you can use the command parameters for the bf series, I would not suggest using it for bf2142 or bf2 because it messes up your zoomed in view.

Basically when you zoom in with your weapon and move quickly, it lags.
Pro tip: having a slightly zoomed in view also helps better to get headshots

Wow, didn't know someone from XS is developing it

It was some time ago when I tried version 1.05 but I remember a lot of BF2 players were not happy because it somehow lagged game (game felt laggy) and there were some problems with sniper zoom. I will check how the newest version works

The original program came from a guy at WSGF named "Paddy The Wak" and the later updates came from Dopefish.

*I may be wrong*

But they are the originals posting about this application from its true home where the idea was thought of, just giving the owners their credit.

You shouldn't have gotten a punkbuster aimbot kick for using the widescreenfixer exe. If you're interested in pursuing it, then you should post your feedback to the widescreengamingforums where the developer is tracking it.

I've been using the version that added support for v1.50 in BF2142 and haven't had any problems with server kicks.

I was playing BF2 fine, no problems at all! Download this app and try playing again and I got kicked before I could spawn. It says it permanently banned my username and the CD key!

adjusting the resolution with the +szy and +szx parameters isn't the issue. the issue is the fov bf2 uses for non-4:3 resolutions by defaut

just check the website http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/ for more details and a comparison on the used fov.

http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/comparison.jpg

by default, you can see more with 4:3 than with 16:10. the red area shows how it looks like after applying widescreen fixer.
