upgrade to Nvidia Mobo, gtx260 w/8800gt phisics worth it?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and I was wondering if it would be worth it to switch my mobo to an Nvidia chipset so I can use my existing 8800gt for physics in combination with a gtx260. How much performance would I pick up vs. just upgrading my gpu on my current mobo and selling my 8800gt?

You should be able to use a dedicated GPU PhysX card on your present motherboard, from what I've read it doesn't require an nVidia chipset and will run on Crossfire boards.

So can you run an ATI card as your primary with an old NV card dedicated to physx?

yes u can, u can only have 1 brand (or one gpu driver in vista or x64) but for physX u can run it with whatever card since its a physX driver (but its useless IMO unless u like single player physX demo lvls), just keep your board and use the physX and if u dont see an improvement sell the old one. in xp x86 u can run 2 gpu drivers but getting CC and the NV control panel to work at the same time and to get the NV video driver to not kill the ati is difficult (i like changing gtls and ram sub sub timings so difficult means something)

and buying any NV chipset would be a severe downgrade in stability and ocing (except for the 790i) but if u spend the money on that thats almost an i7

XP will let you, Vista will have a sad if you try to run more than one display driver (ie. nVidia and ATi cards at the same time).

the 260 is week without alot of cpu on the 775 and the ati cards are limited by IO bandwidth (fsb), so if u bench low FSB and unlocked multi then the NV card is faster but its still lower IQ and sucks for video, and for sli ur on i7 or a week MB, and i would suggest one card now rather than replacing the MB and getting 2

IMO the best option is to pickup the card that u want, use the 88gt as a physx card and see if it makes a difference if not sell the 88gt and be happy

and last if u want 64-bit then u can forget about the benching results that came out in the last weeks

Until Dec 10. AMD can do driver optimizations too.

its to bad that they throw away dev time for anything that isnt the newest so u get no support in 6-12months, and ur only looking at the 32bit driver that ridiculous u hit 4GB now with 2 gpus and 2GB of ram so u need 64bit and they dont spend time on that like amd dose
