nice. Seems like that Q9650 can pawn. I just wish i had a better ram. But right now im totally confused i even think of sellin my rig (mb, cpu, ram) and upgrade to x58 cuz that sli thing is really sumthin i would like. But well that's nothing for this thread.
Keep pushin that Quad. Mine doesn't like more than 4,1 GHz at max but this could also be limited to my fear to go above 1,4v. I'm sure if i really wanted to squeeze it i could hit higher but prolly not stable. And i like 4 GHz. It's a nice number with FSB 500. I rather concentrate on my memory cas and the subs and try to lower a few voltages. I'm fancy for DDR2 1250 @ 5-6-5-18 atm.
PS: whats the last gadget on the sidebar?
Do these boards support the X3350/new X3360 etc. S775 Xeons? They aren't listed in the CPU compatability matrix, but IIRC the Xeons have been shown to work on ASUS boards that haven't had them listed as compatible either...
Checking pre-release price for the X3360 here in the UK, it's almost identical to the same-spec Q9550 - which would you get?

hello, im just wondering how does the UDSR compare with the UDSP
there is quite a large price difference....

Update at 515fsb. I suggest everyone try Elektrosadists gtl settings if you are having stability issues. I've went from 485 blend stable to 515 with his GTL settings.

well there not my settings. just at the start of your 0C set all voltages manually to the defaults, f.e. mch = 1,1, vtt = 1,2, gtl ref = 0,760, dram ref 0,9 and your ram to whateva fits your specs. if you now move the vtt or the dram ref from it defaults you will just see the gtls which are also used if you just let it at auto. but you can take all these settings for a superb start on the fine tuning of the gtl to get stability.
nice nugzo i was stuck on FSB 510 but i will try 520 later. dunno if i have time for that tomorrow but i'll hope so. but i won't test these settings above FSB 510 anymore for stability. FSB 500 is the max i would run 24/7 so i will use anything above only for benchmarks and stressing i think only with wprime or superpi 32m. To have such a high FSB i really need voltages which i don't want to have on the cpu for too long so i only will only aim for a good everest memory latency, a good 3dmark and a nice superpi.

Total noob question here, but what exactly are the "GTL Reference" and "PL aka Performance Level" located in the bios?
And what are the recommended settings? I am priming my E8400 @ 4.2ghz right now trying to get it stable.
PL is the static read delay tRD. You find it in advanced timing control and you need to set this for each channel (a + b). The GTL voltages are the CPU ref and now i forgot what its called it the bios. anyways the gtls are the refs with a normal value of 0,760. So you should easily see this in bios.
I'm going now to my parents and help them in the garden. While i'm there i will put my water in the ice refrigarator. So when i come back it shold be arround 2 degrees celsius then i will help my mb against condesation and do some benches. i hope i can hit the 4,5G and FSB 530 then stable for benches. now i can boot into windows but its a nogo and lets to bsod soon.
Hey folks. Not a ton of overclocking experience here but I am familiar with the process. I am upgrading my core components on a budget of roughly $500 and the UD3P seems to be a solid starting point. From what i have read the Q6600 looks like my processor because of price, overclockability and the fact that I multitask like a fiend. I will be using air cooling- probably the freezer 7, unless someone has a better recommendation. Regarding memory... I don't see alot of consensus when it comes to ram speeds and brands etc. Could someone knowledgeable give me a shove in the right direction and some solid reasoning/numbers behind it? I would soo appreciate it. Also if anyone has any benchmarks or settings they would like to share (with the same components) I would love you long time.
a pity, ddr 1200 works like charm, at least for me. more frequency on the ram is definatly better than a low cas from what i found out. I'm now still waiting a lit for my water its at 5 degrees now and as soon as it's really icy i will start some 0C and benchmarking. i hope i can reach FSB 550 for a run with super pi and everest latency bench. The only thing that troubles me is that my vga is watercooled and i'm worried about the GTX pcb cause of the condensation.
I also struggle a little if i should find out first what my estimated FSB wall is for the quad. Maybe i do that first lower multi to 6 and go mad on FSB

Ok. I had some fun and i tell you how it went. Basicly i wrote a photo love story about my board n cpu. Have fun.
This is the story of a man trying to impress people he never meet and will never know and his attitude to f...k up his system. (nah not really).
Well baby what would you expect i do to you if i call myself elektrosadist?
Let's check the periphals
Looks icecold to me.
So let's plug it in
Let's do this i know others can.
Pump up the volume!
Louder i can't hear you!?
And it goes a little sumthing like this: (it's booting)
Can i kick it? Yes you can! (it's loading)
bummer. Windows freezes. Should that be it?
Back to basics. more juice!!
I'm in. Nothing bad happened. so let's look at the temps:
Works for me if it works for you.
Validation
Pimpin' ain't easy:
So, is there room for more?
It's loading and I'm in vist but then urgh. stuck again. up it baby it's only a cpu and mb. nothing AMEX can't fix. for everything else theres VISA. (lost screen in windows after booting, prolly mch or vtt)
I hear music again.
up and away
beatin xeon.
Ahhh! push it, now push it real good.
Sacrifizes have to be made
on the right way!!!
but i must definatly have taken a wrong turn. bummer nothing goes.
that's it folks. i lost vista and need to do a reinstall. that limits my 0C for now. lol. that was benchmarkin for today. hope you had a little fun readin i had while pushin it.
@electrosadist, simply put, that was awesome!!not just the overclock but the story and the way you told it. had me riveted to my seat. after you reinstall vista keep pushing.iwas thinking about getting a q9650 ,but after reading your story think i might save some money and get a 9550.

Really nice job. My gskill 1200 came in today. I cant compare to that post but heres to my 24/7 setup. I am contemplating water again to go further. I love this board. I sold my GTX280 and have a 4870X2 on the way. I'll get a second one soon.
I'll try some 8gb 1000 1:1 action for now and when my other gskill gets here i'll try some 8gb 1200 12:10.

Well i've been to hell and back since last post. I put all 8gb in no post. Then post and Bios recovery in progress.
Bios recovers, restarts same thing happened. Could never get bios to recover again.
Went to the shop and grabbed my Maximus 2 formula.
Installed it and hangs on DET RAM. Hmmmm. Tried 1 stick and she booted. Ran memtest and errors instantly
All 4 sticks (2 gskill 9600, 2 gskill 8800) are bad. Went back to the shop and grabbed my gskill 8500.
All is good now with the M2F. Havent reinstalled the UD3 yet with the good memory to see what happens.
I'll do that tomorrow. So.... File this away and hope it doesnt happen to you. Anybody else running or trying
to run 8gb of ram on this board?

BREAKING NEWS For Friday 26th June 2009: Casper the friendly ghost was molested in the early hours of this morning!
Elektrosadist, could you maybe put your images at a smaller resolution.
I was having one hell of a hard time fighting the scrollbar on my Eee PC.
Hi Guys... I'm walking into your steps for at leat ten days...
First I was impressed buy the OC potential of this board, and all the reviews I've read around seems to applause the performance of this "cheap" board.
SO i ordered the UP45-UD3P as a gift for my Q9550 previously running on an Asus P5W DH @ FSB 350 and it was definitly boring whit it My CPU and 8800 GTX are cooled with Swiftech H20 watercooling kit
Anyway... this is where I get with my cheap "MBS RAM High Quality" PC 6400 Ram 5-5-5-15@1,8v + - 0,1v tRD @ PL9
I've tried succesfully to boot @ 500 x 8 but the LINPACK test failed and I forgot to screen my voltages
On my above pic, you'll se the CPU0 temp along with the System temp max hit 95°c /203 F° (the chipset I think) isnt'it a bit dangerous ? I also hear some whistling @ FSB 483
my CPU can achieve 8 LINPAC test after a cold start but won't pass 10 runs and this is worse after a cold start, max 6 run then BSOD with some random reason...
I've tried to OC along with Nugzo and Elektrosadist posts (thanks guys)
But I've never done this before (the P5W DH was a joke for OC)
I've tested the PL9 over PL11 and that was awesome ... the improvement on my system general use was way better than the frequency growth.. I really think that low bandwidth ram and timings are better than 300 more Mhz (at least if you can't manage to have both ) but my ram is really a standard one, not a OC skilled one.. and I'm impressed by its performance, I also think that they die in no time. But when I put my finger on a ram chip, it's not even hot, just warm like a normal temp on normal using. I'll see
What can I do to improve stability ? which voltage should I raise ?
I was before this session at 1.4vcore with no failure, but I think that this is way to much for 4.1 Ghz. Thanks for your help.
