    Question ECS 8800GT Vgpu mod?

    Hello everyone,

sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't find anything during my search.

I am looking for a voltage mod for ECS 8800GT w/ factory equipped Arctic Cooling S1 HS which has non-reference layout.

Pictures of the card can be found here at the review by xbitlabs: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...12mx-dt_2.html
(That voltage chip is a RT8802A)

I tried the bios-mod to 1,1V already but it didn't give me any improvement in overclocking, I'm stuck at around 720mhz for the core. Temps are no higher than 45C load with a 120mm fan.

I tried to measure some suspicious looking points with DMM, recording 1,07V idle and 1,09V load for vgpu (after flashing altered bios). This makes me think that the bios-mod might not work on this card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I may post a more detailed picture if needed, thanks.

There are several ECS PCBs, you have this?

Yes that's exactly the layout that my card has.

I suppose VGPU mod is the same as seen on some other non-reference card (Gainward or something) which has the same RT8802A controller chip.
Which means soldering a 100K VR between Pin 4 (FB) and GND.
I remember there was a picture on a russian forum, but I cannot retrieve the link

Haven't done the mod yet though.

    Another question...

Where is the GND point to solder the other VR point?

i just used the screw pad on the corner (here)

as for overclocking well i did not want to push it at 1st so i went to 1.23v noload and 1.25v load but was unsucsessful any clock i give it the driver just bottemd out so had a play with the volts @1.30 noload and its running fine temps are below 50c w/c tho

    core/shader/mem = 780/2000/950mhz

was playing assassins creed for about 5hours last nite full settings and no problems

still working on the clocks tho will push for some more mhz when i have time

    Nice results!

Here is my best overclock with my ECS 8800GT without vmod, but it's not stable.
    She is stable with 741 core - 1805 shader - 2200 mem

I do vmod but I am afraid, couse i lost a EVGA GF8800 320MB doing this ... I have sucess in vmod, but wen i tried to remove it the card dont work again...

Here the results with EVGA 8800GTS 320

    Now this baby is DIE

I think I will try anyway with the 8800gt

    I made the vmod.

I used a 20K VR what gave me 1.19v set up at maximum resistance at full load.

I achieve 801 Core - 1912 shaders - 1150 mem... but I could not raise my score in 3dmark 2006. I believe that my E2160 is bottlenecking even at 3.5 ghz...

I want to change my cpu, what do you suggest? Q6600 or E8400 ?

    Thanks for help

my memories come to 1178Mhz, but are stable with 1100Mhz...

you read something about the qmonda memories? They say that these chips are burning over 1000Mhz if work for a long time ... I do not know if I believe it ..

yeah i hurd about the mem buring over 1000mhz but i thought that was the samsung chips i may be wrong i've run mine at 1040mhz since the day i got the cards had no problems but now with volt mod it dont like that clock

also beat my personal best today on 3dmark06 finally got the cpu to 4.05ghz stable
    did a run with the gfx cards @ 790/2000/990mhz @ 1.31v loaded

    19429 marks

    You runing like the 9800GX2

I believe in taking a q6600 ... that I will put it to at least 3.8 with my GA-P35-DS3? My cooler is a ICEcube Super Flower + thermal compound AS-5

    Or i take a q9450?

cheers im glad i got these 2 ECS8800gt in sli like you say its almost like having a gx2 but filling 2 pci-x slots lol

well i got my cpu up and stable at 4.4ghz but there seams to be a bottle neck some where and i not sure what it is did a run on 3dmark06 and the score was in the 18000 so dont no if -40c to the cpu is good or not but it helps with 4.4ghz 83% overclovk on cpu ha ha i love it

when I put my cpu to 3.6ghz (100% overclock) my cpu score in 3d mark 2006fall of 3030pts to 2500pts...

I believe it is the CPU temp. It exceeds 75°C.

Tomorrow comes my Q6600 ... I look forward to See how many points I will win ...

    did the vmod today, finally.

adjusting the VR (100K) turned out to be tricky, at first almost nothing happens with the vgpu, but then all of a sudden if you tune it another notch the voltage soars up OVP kicked in twice before I could figure it out

so I set it to 1.29v idle, 1.305v load and 803mhz gpu clock because that means just over 2000mhz shader clock

Here is a screenshot from 3Dmark06, but the score seems pretty low ?!
I don't have much experience with 3D06, but I scored only 1,000pts less with an E2160 and without vmodding the vga.... hmmmmmm

EvoCarlos very nice results with SLI cards

pedrovicz you could try to remove the heatspreader from your E2160 and direct cool the chip to improve temperatures. I have a E2160 too and done it But it's quite dangerous, I once killed a E2180 when I first tried it

Oh, and btw my E8400 sucks. Needs like 1.4v+ for 4Ghz.
