    OCin 2x2GB HyperX PC8500

Title says it all really. I decided to jump to 4GB in prep for W7 64bit and the ever growing memory hunger of games. I can get along fine with 2GB as I optimise Windows services rediculously, but as I don't plan to jump on the AM3/i7 or i5 bandwagon anytime soon (simply because performance gains to me are not that great at present) I figured I may as well grab 4GB mem.

Anyway, heres the deal, I'm trying to get my HyperX to about 1160MHz, I think this is not too much to ask considering stock its 1066MHz and it does it flawlessly @ 2.1v (maybe less, haven't tested.)

    Heres a rundown of the settings I'm using atm;

    8x450MHz (3.6GHz)
    1083MHz mem speed
    Clock Twister: Moderate
    PL: 8
    NB voltage: 1.4v
    SB voltage: 1.3v
    FSB term: 1.4v
    VDIMM: 2.2v
    GTL ref: .65

I can boot around 1160MHz, but even with 2.3v its not stable and I can't figure out why, I've tried PL settings as low as 12 and set clock twister to weakest, used a loose TRFC etc, etc, etc, bit it just won't have it anyone got some ideas? Check screenie for current memory timings and everest results.

I believe those use Powerchips and probably don't scale with voltage. In fact, mine work better at 2.0v than 2.2v

Aw hell I hope Kingston aren't using PSC on their HyperX, Kingston used to have better taste than that. ON a side note, the sticks won't boot with CL6, perhaps a SPD mod would fix that as supported latencies are listed as 3,4, or 5, but hmm..

ED - oh and 2.2v is the minimum for about 1160MHz, anything lower = no POST, yay....

Dunno, these sticks are somewhat.. backwards. I get better stability out of them setting clock twister to strong than I do setting it to moderate.. very perculiar

I'm not done with them yet. As these sticks seem to like aggressive settings I'm going to be aggressive with them. I still say 1200 shouldn't be a problem for a PC8500 kit, but I can live with 1160MHz or so.

Ket they may be Hynix chips, not sure how fine your voltage resolution is but for 24/7 mine do 1186 prime 1200 + benchable, try slacking the back end of the timings a tad maintaining a cas 5.....I found higher than 2.26 pisses them off...in my gigabyte I use 2.25 in my asus I use 2.24-2.26, might want to give it a shot.

Does the board your on have any drive strength options other than AI clocktwister? clock skews? Maybe a bios shot of ram options avalaible? Might be able to give them a shot in my intel rig and work timings out if its similar to rampage formula bios.

I had a set of HyperX PC8500 that was really just a reflashed PC6400 set, but they did manage 1200 5-5-5-15 @ 2.22v on my old P5K.

Personally i think you just got a bum set mate.

You may want to PM Miravo or r00n and ask about the ICs. Those aren't PSC from what you're describing.

Yes, 2x2GB. Sold it off in order to get my current 2GB team xtreems.

It didnt pass 1200MHZ no matter what though, had volts up to 2.5v(activly cooled) and it didnt help at all. Lower wouldnt post, higher was unstable, 2.22v was the sweet spot for them.

The reason i say it must've been a reflashed or edited PC6400 set is because it would boot in every board at 800MHZ 5-5-5-15 @ 1.9v, i had to manually set it to its rated speed of 1066MHZ 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v. I could push it to 1160ish without adjusting volts, but 1200MHZ needed the slight volt bump.

2.22v was set in bios, but I'm not sure if the board overvolted, never bothered to check, RAM was stable for my short (1 hour) gaming sessions so good enough for me. (at that time)

I'll give that a shot, no drive strength options on the Pro, but they shou;dn't really be needed just for 1200. Will report back in a bit, I'll slacken a lot of stuff just to see if they will get stable.

Well, this kit sucks, its official. about 1100MHz is all it really has no timing adjustment or voltage tweaking helps.

Ok, one last throw of the dice.. switched memory tables from the M2F to P5Q Premium. If this doesn;t work.. then they find a new home. Their good sticks, but they won't let me hit my "sweet spot".
