Nice setup, what's the CFM on your 4" fans, I didn't think about sticking the fan out side and ended up with the fan I've got to keep down the noise and lost some CFM, if I'd placed it outside I could of cut down on the window opening and not worried so much about the noise. Thanks for some ideas.

I'm just starting my second variation, just picked up a 8" inline rated at 500 CFM at Home Depot, that an a old InWin case with a removable MB tray, a Saws-all to salvage the drive bays and a bunch of hours in the garage with a few Mountain Mod images, hopefully will have my next case.

Hey Vodka those temps stay that cool all the way to 1.7+ on the NorthBridge volts. My NB feels cold to the touch!!

Hey Ale those fans put out right at 265 CFM's and that has always been enough. The fans are very quiet, you do get the sound of just moving air.

Hey this is what this is about here, help each other out with an exchange of ideas... those are dayton fans they run around $60 The dryer hose was a

few bucks and I also run them off a light switch on my desk. That was a couple bucks. Unless I am really working my system just the cases exhaust fans pull

enough cool air throught the system that I don't nee to run the big fan all the time especially when it is real cold out.

Right now I have my system on to type to you and play some music in the background while I am working on an older HP with a P4 1.5 Willamette core.

It has a bad vid card in it. I have an old Nvidia TNT card here I just stuffed in for the guy for free. Hey I work with him... So what you gonna do...

Anyway I am running at 4650mhz now at 1.5V without the Squirrel cage on and I an sitting at 31C so it's all good....

    WZ

OK well I am full of it!! The fan is the Dayton 4C447 and it more like $85 to $100 nowadays!! Sorry about the misquote on price

Here is the fan. Perhaps a guy could find them on ebay or even a garage sale for a lot less.

    Or online for that matter

Here are my temps at 4.1 with the inline fan on, outside temp 42F +\-. Never that cold here but the setup sure helps. Will have to check out the Daytons. the 8 inch fan I got only does 200 CFM on still air, the 500 was a boost number for moving air, have to start reading the fine print.

Kinda have the same thing going, have a nephew coming over to help him assebly his first box, always loose my extra and backup parts that way.

    WeldZilla,

Great to see you're still active here!

I have a question for you and I can't find the answer anywhere.

I have a P5E with FSB Termination Voltage (VTT) set to AUTO in the bios.
The new version of Everest shows a FSB VTT of 1.38v.

I've noticed that if I overclock to only 3.6ghz, Everest shows 1.33v even though VTT is still set to Auto in the bios.

Is Everest accurate? Is this bios dynamically changing VTT?

If anyone else has some ideas, please feel free!

    Thanks!

Hey Intrepid, Good to see you around too! Look when it comes to fsb term.V. What you are seeing is quite common. Advertised as 1.38 in bios but in actuality about 1.32 to .34.
Myself one of the first things I do with all my boards is just start out at 1.5 on the fsb termination voltage. I don't fiddle around trying to find tune it.
When I am clocking my cpu to it's limits I will go as high as 1.72 in the bios with this voltage and ditto the North Bridge!

Since Friday afternoon I have been running 24/7 at 4750mhz with this 8600, I set the FSB TERM V. @ to 1.5.

Again that is my normal setting.

I see you are running your G.Skill at 1:1. Why? You will gain more overall speed if run it on the 5:6 even at 5-5-5-5 0r 5-5-5-6

at about 2.0 to 2.08 on the volts. Do a run of aquamark on 1:1 then do it again one the divider. you will see a large gain in cpu score on the divider.

    Thanks WeldZilla!

I'm trying 1.30v VTT in the bios which reads 1.22v in Everest. It's stable so I think that should be sufficient for 445x9, don't you.

I've decided to stick to 1:1 for the time being. I may try an E8600 if the price comes down. I like the lower latency timings of 4-4-4-12. Besides, I'm getting some new G.Skill F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231209 ) and we'll see if I get those higher with 4 timings.

I'm quite happy with the performance I getting. My next rig will be a X58 Core i7 system with DDR-3 when I will likely move from XP to Windows 7 - I might wait until Service Pack 1.
By then, maybe the 32nm Gulftown processors will be out!

By the way, I changed to a 333 strap and memory benchmarks went up and latency went down. I read about this at: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=6

Thanks, you gave me something to shoot far all the time I was benching. I'm going to start doing a little gaming, pulled the GX2, replaced it with a 280 and put my cooling system in the garage. See ya on my next build.

One last post, core speed 4904 at 1.576v not bad for a E8500 on 8C +\- air

It's nice to see you guys geting more and more from your systems.

For those of you who are running the 1102 bios I have noticed that it has relaxed the memory quite a bit.
So to get a bit more from your system try to tighten up your timings a bit and see.
I can run my timings at 645mhz for DDR1290 @ 5-5-5-5. I found that I canm also set the AI clock twister to Strong.
That is all with only 2.1V to the mem. So play around with it and see what you can do.

    I found I could run my 2 X 2gb G.Skill PQ easily at it's rated speed on 1T. That is a first.

    Keep tweeking........

wow nice find! 1N command rate for DDR2 at that density is really something i tried that same thing a month ago: would post but freeze in memtest86+... on other thoughts, perhaps if i would have set propper timings i would have managed some results... anyway, those speeds you're getting out of those pq modules are really encouraging this weekend i wont be touching the rig.. but on monday. so i'll post results on tuesday ftw :-] see yah!

I have had problems to boot my computer with the 8500.
I´he tried all the bios, and passed some time it doesn´t boot.
In memtest they don´t give any error...

    Do you now why?

When you say it won't boot?? Do you mean the fans spin but all stays black? Will it go into bios? Does windows try to start only to restart? Does windows try to start
only to go to a blue screen? In what way won't it boot? Is you 8500 a CO or an EO or ES? Which revision??

    Question

    Hi guys

I am having a problem whereby on a cold boot when I use a manual multiplier I get the following error

I have a P5E3 standard with BIOS 1301 and a QX9650 (Quadcore Extreme Edition version). I passed this information onto ASUS but they informed me:

the CPU ratio is a setting to set the CPU multiplier, and generally speaking, that setting of CPU is locked except ES version CPU and Q6850(I remember), so we don`t suggest you to set it and keep it as default.
    My QX9650 is a C0 stepping with sSPec Code = SLAN3

    Is the CPU ratio locked?

I can boot with multiplier of 10, just not with a cold boot (I have to either press the reset button or Ctrl+Alt+Del) whenver I get that error message on post.

My understanding is that the ratio is fully unlocked (6-23) but ASUS inform me that I am misunderstood.

Does anyone else here have a QX9650 on a P5E3 standard?
Are you getting the same error message on cold boot?

    Thanks and Kind Regards
    John

I got that message with all the biosses , now i am on the rampage bios and still got that error when i set multi other then default .
What i did is turn off "halt on error" in the bios , so the computer boots further ( no need anymore to press F1 or F2 )
    I think its the combo P5E and QX9650 ( i have not the p5e3 )

    I think its the combo P5E and QX9650 ( i have not the p5e3 )
    Thanks for the workaround Cranox
Does your system work as intended from a cold boot with a manual/fixed multiplier?

Sadly ASUS tech support are currently of the opinion that our processors (or at least the stepping I have of the QX9650 has a LOCKED multiplier of 9).... I thought Extreme Editions had unlocked multi?

Default multi ( auto ) = cold boot ok
Manual set it @ 9 = cold boot error
Manual set lower/higher = cold boot error

If u got a QX u have no locked multi ,thats why they are so expensive ( i can set it at 14 with no problem )

Yeah that is exactly what I thought the case was Cranox
I did quite a bit of "research" before building this PC back in November 2007 and the reason why I elected to go for the QX was 1) because it was 45nm Quad and 2) Because it had a unlocked multiplier.
ASUS are of the opinion that only ES processors and the Q6850 have unlocked multipliers, I have tried to inform them that the QX9650 also has an unlocked multiplier but I guess it would take a fair few people having the same problem as me to mail them before they investigate "our claims"?

Ah well... thanks for the workaround

This is the latest stance from ASUS with regards to the QX9650 having an unlocked multiplier.

Ok, sir, I have googled it and found that there is unlocked version for this QX9650,
I was of the opinion that all QX9650 processors had an unlocked multiplier, and it was the Q9650 which has a locked ratio of 9.. is this correct?
