    I had a similar problem. Q9450 rock stable at 3.8~9, could go 50 passes of IBT stable, but SPi would "stop working", to quote the vista window, on anything 1M or higher. THis was on 790i ftw.
    Now I have same chip on EP45 UD3 and I've been able to bench SPi at 4.2 at unstably low volts...
    I've no clue what this was. both were on vista x64.

    Try disabling the Windows Audio service. This is a well known bug in Vista. Attached are the .bat files I use to simplify the process, I have never yet manged to get SPi working on Vista with the sound enabled.

    HyperPI works nice also, has a check box to disable audio and will run multiple instances for you.

    I have had similar issues on Vista with SPMod 1.5. In fact, just now booted up Vista on 3.2 Ghz QX9650, and 1M failed.

    Lol, cheers mate going to have to try that. You should write a quick batch command like I did, just takes two double-clicks to bench then.

    Start SPi mod with audio off:
    Code:
    @echo off
    net stop "AudioSrv"
    cd *full path to SPi folder here*
    super_pi_mod.exe
    Turn audio back on again:
    Code:
    @echo off
    net start "AudioSrv"
    Save each into a text document and rename it to .bat
