9600GSO for folding???
I read/heard someplace that the 9600GSO is the same card as the 8800GS, which I also heard is one of the best deals for folding (low power consumption and moderately less expensive to buy). How about this open box Asus, look good?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814121251R
Thinking that since it uses less than 80W if I'm remembering correctly that it would be fine on an older 400W PSU with 20A 12V rail that is just powering an old single core A64.

Yup looks tasty and it will run on the psu. If you can push it enough it's the best ppd/$$$ and ppd/wattage

"high enough clocks" what is high enough? I looked at your chart in your $$/PPD thread, looked pretty good, were those at stock speeds? I'll have to read up on what to use to OC, I know the core doesn't matter but the shaders do. Um, I think it is the shaders anyway!

I tried the rivatuner thing and now I'm getting 2650 PPD, with 641 core 1798 shader and 950 memory. [9600GSO got 2500ppd stock]

According to this chart, the 8800GS gets approximately 4400PPD, and the 9600GSO is supposedly the same card?
Now I'm not so sure to buy it?

Look there he is
Idk, I treid to help him before but he keeps saying that his ppd is normal and never posts all the needed amd asked information so I can't help him
Trust him, or the entire folding community?
Though, the wattage on the 8800gt flavours do look off to me

So this would be an ideal buy? 150 for 2 cards is awesome. Should I be ordering this soon? Better than th 109 dollar 8800gt probably? relatively same ppd, right?
I tried adding 3, damn, only 2 max...

Memory bus has no influence on ppd, all the gso's and gs's have 128bit that's why their cheap.
It will game like dog poop but it will fold no problem.

The 384 meg are faster cards. I'm not sure if they'll fold better but they'll be bettter for gaming.

I will NOT game on these cards. Movies at the most. When I upgrade my 8800gts in the future, that'll go into this case and I can use that to game.
Is the 512mb w/ 128bit buss 9600gso the same folding wise as the 384mb 192bit version?

It should fold the same because folding is done with the shaders.

Hey I should edit my post so I don't look dumb, but I totally missed the dual architecture changes to the gso / gs line!
I think it's safe to assume since the memorybus doesn't matter as an 8600gs get's about what one would expect looking at shaders and clocks.
Edit: Synth, you want to hear a one worded answer? Yes.

If you had cancer your order just scared it away.
If I may ask, why did you order both 512 and 384 versions?

Lesser only for gaming, it will fold as well I guestimate. Think it's time to update those charts again lol.. though I haven't posted the last one's from him here yet ( and I think not many reports from the new variants or it would have been in there already ).
